I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.
— Walt Disney, Disneyland; October 27, 1954
There is no doubt Disney’s Mickey is one of the sources of happiness all over the world, for kids and adults equally. A quick run of history 1st to explain his origin, then back to his 90th anniversary.
On May 15th, 1928 Walt Disney company decided to test run Mickey Mouse and that was through a soundless animation called “Plane Crazy”, and on 18th of November of the same year was the 1st official appearance for him in “Steamboat Willie”.
Why was Mickey created? long story short he was created as a replacement to another character “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” that was claimed by Charles Mintz as he had fooled Disney in owning the rights.
Inspired by a real mouse that Walt saw and lived with for a short while he created Mortimer Mouse which was the original name until Walt’s wife suggested changing the name to Mickey Mouse.
So as we see Mickey Mouse was from his very 1st thought a salvation, inspiration, and source of comfort. as a mouse he was Walt’s comfort and then inspiration, and from there came Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto and my lifetime favorite character the one and only Donald Duck.
From a broke person who can’t afford rent ad couple of bankrupted companies to a multi-billion company with Net income of US$12.598 billion as for (2018), A Total equity of $52.832 billion (2018) and a Number of employees that was199,000 by September 30, 2017. All this happened because Walt believed in his dream and never gave up. 5 Disneyland parks and other 6 Disney parks all over the world were all created because of a Mouse…
We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
Animations were sort of exclusive for children until Mickey was able to capture adults attention and make them fall in love with him and his gang. Walt Disney had a vision, they each of us have a child within, that needs to be pampered and satisfied… And if you want to know the spirit of Walt, look at those words from Mary Poppins song 1964
Oh, oh, oh!
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height!
Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!
Thank god that mouse was created. That mouse was there when we were happy, was there when we were sad. Was there at our birthdays and celebrations, was there in our gifts and movies, and is there at the begging of any Walt Disney production. That statue of Walt Disney holding Mickey’s hand near the Sleeping Beauty castle and looking to the future is a promise from Walt that as long as there is a future there is Mickey with us…
Happy Anniversary Mickey Mouse, and may you always continue to inspire us and live within us in every single thing we do.
Mickey had always been there for us, always bringing us smiles and always a source of happiness... Happy 90th anniversary Mickey
